Card of the Day: Feb. 24, 2021 — The Chariot

While the Charioteer seems very much in control, and although a chariot carries its passengers forward, this Charioteer appears stationary. There is not a sense of movement in the moment illustrated.

Remember also that the progress depicted by The Chariot can be toward something or away from something else -- and this is why the card is not always easy to understand.

The Sphinxes which pull the Chariot also represent duality -- depicted in reversed black and white colors, each has the head of a human and the body of a lion. The Sphinx is not a single thing.

In this way, the Chariot can indicate taking control of a situation with courage and determination. But its duality symbolism can also represent that struggle to make a decision. "Should I stay or should I go?" for example.
