Tarot Card of the Day: July 4, 2021 — Four of Swords

The Four of Swords contains some frankly eerie imagery. The youngish man lies on a coffin or tomb. With that stained glass window on the wall behind him, he certainly appears at rest in a church, with his hands in a traditional position of rest or meditation.

Is he dead? Or just resting?

And frankly, what does this make us think of the difference between being dead and simply being at rest?

Think of the pain of the Three of Swords, followed by this card with its mood of respite. Or, is this death that comes after a fatally painful experience?

There are many different ways to interpret this card, whether it indicates rest or death.
