Tarot Card of the Day: May 15, 2021 — Five of Cups

The Five of Cups often indicates sadness, regret and loss. This is not a happy-go-lucky card, on its face. From the gray sky, to the black cloak on the figure depicted, to the three overturned cups, this card is filled with sadness. So often it's about what one had and lost. That is the foreground.

Also in the foreground, we have what one isn't paying attention to -- the cups that have not overturned. This is  often the primary meaning of the card -- be careful of ignoring what you have and paying attention only to what you've lost. If you or someone else is concerned with lack, with what you had once but have lost, look around. I'd like to tell the figure in this card, "Look behind you!" It is so important not to lose perspective, to lose sight of things available to you. If you concentrate on what you've lost, it's very easy to lose sight of what you have.
In the distance, we have a building and a bridge that crosses a river. That river can represent the passage of time and renewal of resources -- the old water flowing away, and the new water flowing in. That bridge also presents a way forward -- cross the bridge into a new stretch of land, and leave those losses and disappointments behind.
"All is not lost, even though it may seem that way," can be what the Five of Cups says.
