Tarot Musing of the Day — February 14, 2022

What would you think if these two cards appeared together in your Tarot reading? The Seven of Pentacles and Nine of Swords.

Consider this hypothetical scenario: You are working in a job that you don't really like. You have done well, but you are thinking you might be happier doing something else.

The Seven of Pentacles is a "waiting for the harvest" card. It suggests you consider your options, especially how they might bring different results or outcomes to you. You may lack hope about the future.

Think carefully about whether you are considering various outcomes realistically. We often talk ourselves into something and then do things that bring about that outcome -- this is called the self-fulfilling prophecy.

Those events can tie back to childhood experiences that conditioned -- "Whenever X happens, then Y is the outcome I experience."

But that doesn't always need to be the case. Be careful of considering outcomes in a less-than-realistic way.

Turning to the Nine of Swords -- this is a card that indicates pain and anguish. It is a "dark night of the soul" image.

In this scenario, does it tell you the pain could be coming up, or that the pain is moving into the past? It may very well mean that you chose this work or this employer and fulfilled a work-related prophecy that you expected.

One of the most important things about a card with a dramatic image like this is to be careful of too much black/white thinking. Be open to the gray -- everything is not always "all good" or "all bad."

Have you ever been faced with a situation that you thought could only give you an unhappy outcome? Did you always experience an unhappy outcome? Or were you able to bring about a different kind of result?
